Desoto S13 Custom Convertible. Once in a great while you find a car that breaks with tradition and is just so nice it stands out wherever it goes. Such a car is this rare DeSoto droptop, one of only 3385 built in 1949. This particular car, looks stock, but has been moderately updated for dependability and economy. It is a very handsome cruiser that draws admiring looks and smiles from everyone.

The car was rescued from oblivion in the 1980s and lovingly restored by the seller over time. The body and chassis are rust free, and the bright work is outstanding. The grille and bumpers sparkle like diamonds, and several coats of hand applied and polished Mercedes Dark Blue lacquer adorn this 68 year old MOPAR convertible.

The original L Head engine and fluid drive transmission are history. Under the hood is a 292 CID Chevrolet in line 6 cylinder engine bored over 0.030 that has been ported and relieved. With a split manifold and dual exhaust, it makes over 200 horsepower, about 90 more ponies and lots more torque than the original engine produced. This rebuilt and reliable engine is hooked up to a Camaro 5 speed manual overdrive transmission and a Spicer 3.08:1 rear end. The car has a 12 volt electrical system, except for the 6 volt operated power top. The gas door is electrically operated, also. A tachometer has been added and all the switches and gauges in the chrome laden dashboard work. Power steering makes driving this convertible easy, too.

Though it is not a perfect show car, the DeSoto still collects car show trophies. To be specific, there are tiny swirls in the paint, and the chrome on the window frames is slightly pitted. A close inspection of the car shows no dents or dings, no spider webbing, stress cracks or chipping. Inside, the front carpet shows slight fading and wear, but the soft, supple leather upholstery is in superb shape. The engine compartment and undercarriage are clean and free of rust, and the power operated convertible top is in outstanding shape.

There are virtually none of these DeSoto convertibles left. The low, low asking price assures that the buyer is guaranteed to get his moneys worth. The seller is moving and will have no place to keep this beauty, so he is sacrificing it to a lucky new owner. Cash offers will be considered only. No trades, please.
