This beauty is a 1966 GTO convertible with 4-speed manual and 389 tri-power (WS block, 3x2 bbl). PHS documentation and nameplate verify a true 242 GTO, 4-speed. Built as a 4-bbl car (i.e., not numbers matching) but a fantastic, highly desirable 4-speed, convertible GTO with the happy conversion to WS tri-power, plus the preferred Rally I wheels. IncludesRally gauge package and center console options. Also has optional power steering. Power brakes with front discswas justadded professionally in Sept2016 as an important safety upgrade (one final touch).

An extensive frame-on restoration was accomplished, including a quality engine rebuild, a new (superior quality from Tandamp;B Trans) Muncie M20replica transmission w/Antonio Masiero gears, shifter rebuild by Hurst, complete suspension renewal and upgrades, 4-core radiator, new heater core, new wiring harnesses, all new rubber and felt seals, new windshield, new interior (upholstery, carpet, front seat springs, seat covers, dash pad, door panels, visorsand other vinyl), re-furbished original radio w/power antenna and new speaker, new convertible top and pistons includingtop frame restoration, new gas tank and fuel sending unit, new GM door and window handles, new mirrors, new badging (e.g., rear P-O-N-T-I-A-C) as needed,re-chroming of all chrome parts, and all stainless steel pieces removed and professionally polished. The original wood steering wheel is restored nicely.

The car is re-painted in original exterior and interior colors. The exterior was sanded to bare metal and painted in superblymatched (color and metalflake appearance) nightwatch (dark) blue, but with the incredible look of base / clearcoat, best quality PPG paints. Interior paint is acrylic parchment. Note the effect of the hand painted parchment pinstripe! The trunk was refurbished correctly with original style splatter paint and correct houndstooth pattern mat. New exhaust is a moderate Flowmaster 2-1/4 system (942441 mufflers); i.e., sounds great but does not harrass the spouse and neighbors (much).

The engine rebuild includedimportant quality improvements implemented for reliability. An example isupgrading ofthe 093 heads; e.g., press-in rocker studs replaced with stronger screw-in studs, hardened (recession proof) exhaust valve seats, new valves, springs and rockers, stronger pushrods, etc.Ceramic coated exhaust manifolds prevent rusting, enhancing appearance. Thenew type(viton) rear main sealsolves the common problem of leakage with earlier rebuilds (after asbestos was removed from replacementseals). A new Rochester center carb was installed for additional reliability. Points are replaced with an electronic module, invisible within the distributor, so no points maintenance is needed. The 3.55 rear axle has a new Auburn anti-slip that works perfectly as an upgradefrom the originalposi-traction.The Crane283801 cam was chosen for a bit more than stock 360 HP combined with theimportant ability torun great (not knock) on todays ordinary super gas, without turning back the timing from factory setting to prevent knocking. Always run on specific, top quality, synthetic oilthat contains the required zinc level that is a must for these HiPo muscle car valve trains.

Various other improvements and replacements were made that make this a really, really neat GTO!

My second 66 GTO (the first one cost$2850), Ive owned this car for 25 years. I just dont drive or hobby with it much anymore so, somewhat regretably, have decided to let it go to another home. And the proceeds will go to a good cause...grandkids college contributions.

Located in New Braunfels, TX (between Austin and San Antonio).
