1968 1/2 Pontiac Firebird 400 Ram Air II Coupe</p><p>Extremely rare. 1of only12 with Automatic transmission of the 110Firebirds builtwith the L67 Ram Air IIoption. PHS documented. This is the first Ram Air II Firebird, the only one produced on May 20, 1968, the first day of probuction. Special ordered by Weidner Pontiac in Mansfield, Ohio and campaigned by the dealership owners son in the NHRA B/Stock Automatic class during the 1968 drag racing season.</p><p>Cameo Ivory exterior, Black bench seat interior, 16,745 actual miles, factory equipped with the L67 400 cu-in./340 HP Ram Air II engine, Turbo Hydramatic transmission with column shift and no radio, Hood Tachometer, Rally Gauges, Soft Ray Glass, Variable-ratio Power Steering, 3.90 Safe-T-Track rear axle and Firestone F70-14 red line tires.</p><p>The Ram Air II engine option replaced the original L67 Ram Air option in mid-year 1968 to meet the demand for increased performance. It was the first to use re-designed cylinder heads with large round exhaust ports and its primary purpose was to give Pontiac a competitive entry in drag race competition. Always a formidable competitor, a 1968 Ram Air II Firebird held the NHRA National Recordin the heavily contested B/Stock class for three consecutive years in the mid 1970s and won the Stock Eliminator crown at the NHRA U.S. Nationals in 1977. Still competitive today, a 1968 Ram Ait II Firebird C/Stock Automatic was the number onequalifier for Stock Eliminator at the 2014 NHRA Winternationals!</p><p>This Ram Air II Firebird features all correct factory originalengine components including the 4-bolt main cylinder block, Armasteel crankshaft, TRW forged aluminum pistons, high output camshaft and vakve train, rare Ram Air II cylinder heads with round exhaust ports and lightweight valves, Ram Air II Quadrajet 4-BBL carburetor, ignition distributor, cast-iron long branch exhaust manifolds and forced air induction system with open hood scoops. The remainder of the drivetrain hascorrect original components and only the best available reproduction and NOS trim items were used in the restoration.</p><p>An absolutely stunning concours quality rotisserie restoration by Scott Tiemanns Supercar Specialties was completed November 2013. Flawless and correct in every detail, it was the cover car featured in the April 2015 issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine.
